INFLUENZA UPDATES AND LINKS

Many entities are going to or are dealing with the influenza issue and EMS will be a critical part of this! Organizations will have to utilize many dynamics of your system to deal with this to include: 

Public relations and education, direct patient care and transportation, home treatment and assessment and more. 

Link to the Centers for Disease Control and Kansas Department of Health and Environment are the two main resources for information and you can click on the names for those websites. Recommendations from these entities are essential to your preparedness for the situation.

Top 5 things EMS can do to prepare:

1. EDUCATE- Educate the public, your staff, Volunteers and everyone you can with quality information. Assure the information the public is getting is timely and correct information and not just word of mouth stories. 

2. STOCK UP- Assure you have stores of masks (when the time is needed), gloves and cleaning materials. 

3. PROMOTE- Good daily habits. Wash hands more frequently. Sanitize units daily and after every call where signs and symptoms show possible infectious process. 

4. MONITOR- situational awareness can be utilized to realize when to increase
